Now just how does something become cool? This is a question that has been asked many a time at the Ultimate List and immeasurable funding and research has gone into finding it. One source is, simply, what has been cool, and over a period of time has become superficially "square". This follows the belief that there is nothing truly original any more. Everything has been done before by either some group or individuals. The sole difference of what is in and what is out is the timing. There are innumerable examples of this. Many of today's rap songs are simply covers of old 70's funk songs. Movie's like X-men, Josie and the Pussycats, and Charlie's Angel's are re-using old storylines and characters. Oversized hoop-earings and crimped hair went from being all the rage to being considered tacky and are once again in. Other things never were cool but became so drasticly uncool they qualified as well. Such examples are tortoise-shell glasses to capris pants to deep blue jeans with rolled-up hems. Our research has been found to cover most apects of coolness. However there are still some anomonalies such as skateboarding which has remained cool for the past forty years. So to wrap things up buy low, sell high, and bail when you see middle-aged men digging it.
